“Wategos in 1967 with my older brothers and sister and their friends.”

DID YOU BEGIN ON LONGBOARDS?
“Yes, my brothers would put me on the front of their mals and away we’d go. Then after a while they would jump off and I was on my own.”

WHO OR WHAT FIRST INFLUENCED YOU TO START SURFING?
“We were living at Wategos 1958-1962. I was watching my brothers surf all the time so I annoyed them into getting me out there amongst it.”

HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN THE BYRON BAY AREA?
“I am an old prick, 45 years.”

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED WITH THE BYRON BAY MAL CLUB?
“8 years”

“The life members now are Yvonne and Max Pendergast and Greg Snelling.”

COMMENTS ABOUT YOUR PAST COMPETITIVE SURFING?
“1972-1976 riding shortboards with South Of the Border, Regional and State in QLD. From 1995 until now riding longboards. I have several Regional, State and Australian titles.”

MOST MEMORABLE SURF SESSION?
“Riding shortboards in the 70’s, surfing the PASS and BROKEN to ourselves until dark I think any good dawn raid is a great surf.”

MEMORABLE SURFING INCIDENT?
“Yallingup, Western Australia in the 2001 Australian Longboard Titles, I was wiped out on a 10ft monster and being held down with a 9' mal dragging me further under.”

WORST SURFING INJURY?
“A bad fin chop to my ankle.”

FAVOURITE PLACE TO SATISFY YOUR HUNGER AFTER A BIG SESSION IN THE WATER?
“My house, bacon and eggs on toast, tea, paper then sleep.”
